The Mountaineers have their first game this Saturday

Thursday, September 3, 2009

The Mountaineers will be getting some game action this Saturday at Noon on Mountaineer field. The experts are already calling for a blow out, ESPN predicts a final score of 45-14. We'll see if these predictions are correct at least the score, I'm pretty confident in the Mountaineers this weekend. If you can't make it to Mountaineer field this weekend for the game you can catch it on ESPN360.com.
This weekend will be Jarrett Browns debut and it should be interesting to see him as the main leader. We've seen him play here and there but never a full game. In the times he has played he did well so I don't think he will be nervous about starting against the Liberty Flames.

A McAfee replacement?

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

The Mountaineer Football team lost a lot of people last year one being the Kicker Pat McAfee. Its going too be tough for anyone too come in and replace Pat McAfee, who graduated last year. The Mountaineers are working with red shirt freshman Tyler Bitancurt on his kicking game.

The Mountaineers and the coaching staff have been working hard during training camp too get the team ready for the season. Tyler Bitancurt is just an example of some of the freshman and other underclassman that are working hard too fill the void left by the departure of last years senior class.

A funny coincidence is that Bitancurt actually got McAfee's number #40 jersey when they were handing out numbers. Bitancurt in the spring wore the number 31 but new numbers are given out so he got 40 as his new number. I don't know but maybe its a sign of good things too come, but Bitancurt still has things too work on like leg strength. The staff said he has a problem with low angle kicking so he has too work on that too.

There are lots of thing's that still have too be figured out stay tuned, I will update with news as it comes about.

Butler makes U.S. team

Friday, June 19, 2009

The team for the U.S. that will represent them at the World University Games in Serbia has been selected. The team was select by committee led by Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, Boeheim is quoted as saying "It was one of the most difficult decisions we as a committee have had because the team is so balanced" about the team.

The team will be coached by Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan. The team includes WVU's own Da'Sean Butler. Butler will be joined by fellow Big East player Corey Fisher out of Villanova. The team is very diverse in the players chosen. I like the fact they didn't put all of the people that have entirely too much fame across the U.S. like a Jodie Meeks or something. I don't have hate for Jodie Meeks I just don't think he is a very good team player.

Coach Ryan said after the players were selected " The next step is to make sure we are all on the same page in everything that we do. We can't have three guys handling screens one way, for example, and two guys doing something different. What we are going to try to defensively is make sure that we understand our rotations and coverage, and from there, understand offensively what our looks are going to be. We need to learn to play to our strengths and not shy away from weaknesses, and those are all nuances that will play out over the next week before we head to Serbia."

With the good news of Butler making the team came the bad news that Freshman Darryl Truck Bryant did not do the same for the 19 and under team. Although Bryant didn't make the team I feel the Mountaineers are still going to get recognition when Butler does well. The tournament in Serbia starts July 2 - 11.

If you can some how find a way out to Serbia it should be a good couple of days of basketball too watch. I've always found it interesting to watch teams from America go abroad and challenge other nations. The games are blowouts most of the time, just look back at this past summer at the Olympic games. Either way the games are still fun to watch if the games get streamed over the Internet I'll be sure to let you know.

DARRYL TRUCK BRYANT RECOGNIZED

Saturday, June 6, 2009

Truck Bryant didn't have the best year but he definitely had his bright spots. Bryant did better than most Freshman who have to play starting point guard do. Bryant had to play starting point guard most of the year after the untimely injury to Junior Joe Mazzulla's leg. When Joe Mazzulla went down the Mountaineers had very few options for a replacement, Bryant got the tough assignment. He showed great promise early in the season but soon showed his inexperience when the conference games came around... However Bryant definitely picked up his play in the back end of the season and was the only real bright spot in the Mountaineer's loss to Dayton in the First Round of the March Madness Tournament.

Later, This Month Bryant will have a chance to showcase his improved game. At the tryouts for the USA Basketball's U-19 team trials in Colorado. Bryant has the opportunity to be on the same team as fellow teammate Da'Sean Butler. Bryant received the opportunity after his close personal friend Kemba Walker pulled out of the tryouts for the team to go to summer school and The Lebron James Skills Academy. It would be interesting to have both of them representing the WVU Mountaineers on the team, it would really make us look good.

BUTLER GET'S INVITED!

Friday, May 22, 2009

De'Sean is one of only 15 college basketball players that has been invited to the USA Basketball's World University Games Training Camp. The are only two other players who are coming out of the big east are Villanova's Corey Fisher and Marquette's Lazar Hayward. The coach for the team he is trying to get onto is Syracuse head coach Jim Boehiem.
If butler makes the team he will be playing his first international game in
Belgrade, Serbia from July 2-12. Some other great players he might be playing with are Sheron Collins of Kansas and Deon Thompson of UNC. This is a great opportunity for Butler to showcase his talents on a larger scale against different opponents.
